Baby got boot

Holden and Ford have been doing battle in Australasia for decades. Each continues to try to outdo the other in the lucrative large car ie. Taxi, police car, rental and supercar racer, market. Holden claims its Commodore to be the best selling car in NZ. This is largely due to the above markets, ie, Taxis, Police cars, Rental Cars.

They have recently unveiled the latest generation of commodore, the V series.

They invested more than AU$ 1 billion dollars in the project. In my uninformed, uneducated opinion, and I believe the opinion generally typical of the male population of the world, they have built a Ford Falcon with a big arse.

Lets be honest chaps. When the salesman says that this car has “Increased output from the new 6.0L Generation 4 V8 engine to peak power of 270kW @ 5700rpm and peak torque of 530Nm @ 4400rpm, up 10kW and 20Nm” and “the transmission is a GM 6L80E six-speed automatic transmission with Active Select (introduced in the Cadillac STS-V in the United States and is making its Australian debut as an option in all V8 variants.”

What the f*** does that mean? Do you really care?

No. I believe you’re like me. Here are my questions where I to buy a new car. Does it look cool? Does it go fast? Will it protect me and my family when I look cool going off the road at 150 km/h into a ditch? If given the opportunity, will I be able to stop it going into that ditch with a gentle depression of the brake lever? The answer to most of these questions is Yes. I’ll leave it to you figure out which.

Ninety five percent of car owners wouldn’t have a clue what is going on beneath the bonnet, and for 75% of those people, ignorance is bliss. Of the 20% who do claim to know, 65% are rally drivers, mechanics, the guys who build the cars, and car thieves, and ITS THEIR BLOODY JOB to know what’s going on under the hood. Leave em to it. The rest are liars.

And by the way, a new Ford Falcon would probably do everything the Holden claims, so base any decision you make purely on looks. And the service plan. Both cars have notoriously sh*tty build quality.

And a good Audi would piss on both of them.
